Dr. Maria Sultan is Pakistan's most distinguished civilian defense strategist — the Chairperson, President, Director General, and Founder of the South Asian Strategic Stability Institute (SASSI) University in Islamabad. She is the architect of SASSI's academic vision and the driving force behind its evolution into a globally recognized center for strategic and defense warfare education.

A specialist in South Asian nuclear arms control, disarmament, and weapon systems development, Dr. Sultan has served as an official Advisor to Pakistan's Ministry of Defence on strategic and military affairs. She was the founding co-director of the South Asian Strategic Stability Unit at the Bradford Disarmament Research Centre (BDRC), University of Bradford, UK, establishing the foundational intellectual framework that now defines SASSI University.

Her expertise spans nuclear deterrence doctrine, second-strike strategy, threat assessment, chemical weapons verification, hybrid warfare integration, and Pakistan's evolving defense posture in the face of regional and global threats. She is a widely published author and has presented at the OPCW Conference of States Parties, NATO Defence College, China Institute of International Studies, and the Russian Center for Policy Studies in Moscow.

As Founding Vice Chancellor of Muslim Youth University and a visiting faculty member at National Defence University, Pakistan Naval War College, Pakistan Air War College, and Command and Staff College Quetta — Dr. Sultan has shaped the strategic thinking of an entire generation of Pakistani defense professionals.
